Grand Island man arrested after failing to stop and render aid following car accident | 1340 KGFW

GRAND ISLAND – A Grand Island man was arrested after he failed to stop and render aid following a two-vehicle accident Saturday evening, May 11th.

According to the Grand Island Police Department, at 8:30 p.m., officers responded to a personal injury crash near 8th Street and Greenwich St., where a blue 1990 Jeep flipped on its side and a white Chevrolet Malibu Damaged in a resident’s yard, the rear was on the driver’s side.

Officers determined there were three occupants in the Jeep and three occupants in the Malibu.

Contact was made with one of the Jeep’s occupants who advised officers that the other two occupants left the scene and headed to their residence down the street.

The inmate was noted to have a large scratch and fresh blood on his right arm. They were later taken to the hospital for an X-ray.

Officers would locate the other two residents at their registered address. One of the occupants was found to be a five-year-old juvenile who had a bump on his head and was complaining of a headache. The child would receive medical treatment.

The other occupant was identified as Teddy Swader, 58, who officers know had his driver’s license revoked. A records check would confirm that Swader has a revoked license due to six prior convictions.

The Jeep is registered to one of Swader’s children.

Officers said Swader denied driving the Jeep, but was found to be wearing only one shoe and his other shoe was found on the driver’s side of the Jeep.

Swader also complained that the left side of his chest felt pain from the seat belt, GIPD said. This location corresponds to the position of the driver’s seat belt.

The GIPD would determine that Swader had left the scene of the accident and failed to render aid or provide information.

Swader was arrested for driving under revocation and failure to stop and render aid. He would be booked into the Hall County Corrections Department.
