Country singer Morgan Wallen was arrested after throwing a chair from the roof of a bar in Nashville

Country singer Morgan Wallen was arrested overnight in Nashville on felony charges after he allegedly threw a chair from a downtown rooftop “without any legitimate purpose,” police said.

Wallen, 30, was booked into jail early Monday morning on three counts of reckless endangerment and one count of disorderly conduct in connection with the incident late Sunday night, Metro Nashville police reported.

According to an affidavit obtained by USA TODAY, at 10:53 p.m. local time, two police officers were standing outside the Chief’s Bar in the city’s entertainment district on Lower Broadway when they saw a chair fall from above and fall onto the street around 3 meters away from them.

In the affidavit, police wrote, bar employees told officers that Wallen threw the chair and when officers reviewed video footage of the incident, he was seen “falling and throwing an object from the roof.”

Chief’s Bar, owned by country singer Eric Church, is a six-story building.

Witnesses told police they stood next to the country singer and watched as he “picked up the chair, threw it over himself and then laughed,” the affidavit continues.

Police wrote that they arrested Wallen for reckless endangerment because two officers were in the area and the incident posed a danger to the public.

The affidavit goes on to say officers arrested him for disorderly conduct because “he created a dangerous condition by an act that served no legitimate purpose.”

Where is Morgan Wallen from?

Morgan was born in Sneedville, a small town in Hancock County, Tennessee, about 70 miles northeast of Knoxville.

In February, the singer announced he was planning to open a six-story bar called This Bar on Lower Broadway. The title comes from Wallen’s 2019 song, in which he sings, “I found myself in this bar/Making mistakes and making new friends.”

Wallen’s most recent album, “One Thing at a Time,” reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart and spawned the Hot 100 No. 1 hit “Last Night.”

Wallen had previously criticized a video in which he uttered racial slurs

The arrest is not the first time Wallen has come under fire for his public actions.

In February 2021, Wallen apologized after a video surfaced of him shouting a racial slur in Nashville, prompting a swift backlash from the music industry.

In a video posted to YouTube, Wallen described what is depicted in the video as “hour 72 of 72 of a bender.”

“Of course it’s natural to keep apologizing and just keep apologizing, but because you got caught and that’s not what I wanted to do,” the singer said in the video. “I have let so many people down. And (people) who mean a lot to me and give me so much. And that’s just not fair.”
