Mobile and internet services will remain suspended in AJK for two days

The Azad Kashmir government has decided to suspend mobile and internet services for two days, sources said late Sunday.

According to the sources, the convoy of protesters traveled to the capital Muzaffarabad after the collapse of negotiations between the Joint People’s Action Committee and the Azad Kashmir government.

Prime Minister Shehbaz called a meeting on Monday (today) on the situation in AJK, sources said.

The AJK prime minister and all concerned stakeholders will attend the meeting, the insiders added.

According to the sources, Minister for Kashmir Affairs, Energy and Food Security will also attend the meeting.

Protests in AJK against electricity tariff hikes, flour prices and elite privileges have been going on for three days.

According to reports, one police officer died and several people were injured in clashes between police and protesters over the past two days.

Sources said more than 150 protesters were arrested. The Rangers were called up on Sunday but were sent back after the AJK government opted for negotiations on the third day of protests.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz stressed the need to show restraint and resolve the issue through talks.
