Djokovic answers whether the bottle incident played a role in his failure at the Rome Masters

Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic has responded to a question about whether the bottle incident had an impact on his defeat in the third round of the Masters in Rome.

I went through half an hour, an hour of nausea, dizziness, blood and lots of different things. I managed to sleep well. I had headache. The next day or yesterday was pretty good so I thought it’s ok. I mean, the way I felt on the pitch today was just like another player had walked in my shoes. Just no rhythm, no tempo, no balance at all on any beat. It’s a bit worrying.

As a reminder: Djokovic lost sensationally in the third round against Chilean Alejandro Tabilo.

The incident occurred on May 10 in the Italian capital after Djokovic defeated Frenchman Corentin Moutet (6-3, 6-1) in the first-round match and signed autographs for spectators in the stands. As the Serb walked through the tunnel, a bottle filled with water fell out of his pocket and hit him in the head. Djokovic fell down and couldn’t get up again for a while. Stadium security guards helped him into the locker room.
