1 dead in motorcycle crash in Catawba County, cops say

CATAWBA COUNTY, NC (WBTV) – A man was killed in a motorcycle accident in Catawba County Friday night, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Troopers said it happened on Oxford School Road near U.S. 70 around 11:40 p.m.

A 2010 Yamaha motorcycle was traveling north on Oxford School Road, crossed the center line, left the left side of the road and overturned.

The driver of the motorcycle, Wesley Todd Crawford, 56, of Statesville, was ejected from the motorcycle and died at the scene.

Police said the initial investigation shows excessive speed was the cause of the accident.

The road in the area was closed for approximately two hours while the scene was investigated.
