Kuwait’s Emir dissolves parliament and suspends some parts of the constitution

Kuwait’s Emir, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah, announced on Friday the dissolution of parliament and the suspension of certain articles of the country’s constitution for a maximum period of four years pending a complete overhaul of the democratic process.

In a televised address, the ruler expressed the challenges faced by Kuwait, which affected all aspects of life and resulted in a negative reality. He emphasized the responsibility entrusted to him to lead the state and its people through these difficult times with minimal losses.

Sheikh Meshal described Kuwait’s current situation as full of unimaginable difficulties and obstacles, with some individuals stubbornly blocking any way out of this bitter reality.

He explained that the decision to dissolve parliament and suspend parts of the constitution was a tough but necessary step to protect the country’s interests and national resources.

According to the state news agency KUNA, the emir and the cabinet will take over the powers of the National Assembly.
