CNN anchor Alisyn Camerota reveals Roger Ailes sexually harassed her

CNN co-anchor Alisyn Camerota said she was sexually harassed by Roger Ailes, the former Fox News CEO who resigned last year amid similar allegations from other women.

“Roger Ailes sexually harassed me,” Camerota told CNN’s Brian Stelter on Sunday. “He was often quite inappropriate with the things he said. And I think a lot of us have experienced that.”

Camerota, who worked at Fox News for more than a decade, said that when she first started at the cable news network, she went to Ailes’ office and told him she wanted more opportunities. She said he replied that they would have to work “very closely” together, which would require them to go to a hotel. “Do you know what I’m saying?” Camerota said Ailes asked her. Camerota said she wondered whether rejecting his advances would jeopardize her career. “Will I get fired if I don’t do this?” She remembered thinking at the time.

Ailes resigned last July after several women accused him of sexual harassment. Two of the network’s former hosts, Megyn Kelly and Gretchen Carlson, also said he made unwanted sexual advances toward them.

Roger Ailes’ attorney, Susan Estrich, dismissed Camerota’s allegations, calling them “baseless and false.”

“Mr. “Ailes never engaged in the inappropriate conversations that she now says took place, and he vigorously disputes this fictitious account of her interaction with him and Fox News’ editorial policies,” the statement said Explanation.

Camerota’s revelation comes after the ouster of former Fox News anchor Bill O’Reilly, who was fired by the network last week. After a New York meeting, he was subjected to intense scrutiny and an advertising boycott Just Report revealed that he paid five women a total of $13 million because they agreed not to file lawsuits or speak publicly about harassment allegations. Camerota said on CNN’s “New Day” earlier this week that O’Reilly never harassed her.

Camerota left Fox News three years ago, noting that her decision to leave was partly due to her unpleasant interactions with Ailes.

She decided to finally go public with her story because O’Reilly’s firing showed her that Fox News executives seemed to want a change in the culture. “It felt like there was a turning point this week,” she said. “It feels like they (the Murdochs) really want to know what the culture was like, and I don’t know how you can do that with silence.”
