Update: OSP releases details of fatal crash on Highway 30 | News

“On Friday, July 26, 2024, at 8:08 a.m., Oregon State Police responded to a three-vehicle crash on Highway 30, near mile marker 51, in Columbia County.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a westbound gray Kia Soul, driven by Bridget Ann Connell, 54, of Scappoose, was attempting to turn left into the Valley Veterinary Clinic when it was struck from behind by a westbound white GMC Sierra, driven by William Eugene Howard, 56, of Rainier. The collision forced the Kia into the eastbound lane, where it was struck head-on by an eastbound black Dodge Journey, driven by Jennifer Lynn Huff, 33, of Westport.

The driver of the Kia (B. Connell) and his passenger Nyx Ariel Connell (47) of Scappoose were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the GMC (Howard) reportedly suffered minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.

The driver of the Dodge (Huff) and the passengers, a six-year-old boy and a ten-year-old girl, reportedly suffered minor injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital.

The motorway was closed for approximately six hours while the investigation was being carried out on site. The cause of the accident is currently being investigated.

OSP was assisted by the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, Columbia River Fire and Medic, and ODOT.”
