A jury has been told that the version of events given by a Garda officer accused of sexually assaulting a woman at a Garda station in County Wicklow was “poorly written erotica”.

William Ryan’s claim that he had a completely consensual sexual experience with the woman who came to the station to discuss the return of her son’s car was “implausible, unbelievable and defies logic,” prosecutor Maurice Coffey SC said in his closing argument at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court today.
