Jasper trainer shot dead in San Antonio

Ayden Burt was at the Smoke Skybar after attending a trainers’ conference when shots were fired from a vehicle in front of the bar.

JASPER, Texas – A Jasper ISD English teacher and volleyball coach was tragically killed in a shooting at a patio bar in downtown San Antonio early Tuesday morning.

Ayden Burt was at the Smoke Skybar after attending a trainers’ conference when shots were fired from a vehicle in front of the bar.

San Antonio police responded to a call to the 500 block of East Crockett about 12:15 a.m. on reports of the shooting.

When officers arrived, they found Burt shot in the upper back while sitting outside on the patio of Smoke Skybar.

Officers found her sitting on the upper level of the patio bar with her back to the street when a gunshot was heard from near I-37, striking the victim.

SAPD believes the shot came from the highway and that Burt was the only victim.

Burt was admitted to BAMC in critical condition but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries.

San Antonio police say they have no suspects and do not know why the victim was shot. The investigation is ongoing.

The community of Jasper is shocked by the tragedy.

“It is with heavy hearts that we learned of the passing of one of our staff members, Ayden Burt. We ask for prayers of comfort for her family, as well as her extended family, the students and staff of Jasper ISD.
