Woman killed in shooting after argument in Meriden

A fatal shooting on State Street in Meriden is under investigation.

MERIDEN, Connecticut (WTNH) – Meriden police are investigating a fatal shooting following an argument Monday night on State Street.

Police said they were called to the scene at around 10:08 p.m., where an argument and shooting had occurred.

The officers found an unidentified woman with gunshot wounds. Paramedics rushed to the scene, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim and the people involved in the argument knew each other. Therefore, according to the police, there is currently no danger to the public.

Police are asking the public to avoid State Street and the entire Meriden Green area during the investigation.

Meriden Station and CT Transit Bus Line operations were impacted as State Street was closed for the investigation. While Amtrak trains will run as scheduled, residents will not be able to access the station. The CT Transit Bus Line boarding and alighting area will be temporarily set up on Colony Street.

“Unfortunately, we understand that this may cause temporary inconvenience to some citizens. However, we will not be able to reopen the station until our investigation is complete,” Lieutenant Darrin McKay said in a press release on Monday.

The identity of the victim was not disclosed.
