4 men identified after suspected drunk driving crash on SR-163 in Kearny Mesa – NBC 7 San Diego

Authorities on Monday released the identities of four men in their 20s who died in a suspected drunken driving crash on State Route 163 in Kearny Mesa at dawn.

According to the San Diego County Coroner’s Office, 27-year-old Faruk Cetin, 23-year-old Mahsun Dursun, 27-year-old Abdurrezak Hizmali and 25-year-old Baris Savas were killed in the pile-up on Friday.

The victims were in a Toyota Prius that was struck from behind by a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck on the southbound side of Interstate 805 just before 1:30 a.m., the California Highway Patrol reported. The impact caused the car to spin out of control and crash, ejecting all four men.

Then the driver of a second Prius arrived at the scene and caused an accident with his car, said Salvador Castro, press spokesman for the CHP.

Cetin and Dursun died at the scene of the accident. Paramedics took Hizmali and Savas to Sharp Memorial Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

The overnight crash closed the southbound lanes of State Route 163 near Interstate 805 in Kearny Mesa throughout the morning, causing traffic chaos. NBC 7’s Allison Ash reports July 19, 2024.

Information about the victims’ place of residence was not yet available on Monday.

The drivers of the Tacoma and the second Prius involved in the pileup – 24-year-old Aleim Garcia Alavez of San Marcos and 32-year-old Edward Frederick Poss of San Diego – were arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and vehicular manslaughter, according to the CHP.
