VPD arrests two brothers in shooting investigation

VALDOSTA – Valdosta police have arrested a Valdosta man in connection with the investigation into the shooting of two brothers.

Arrested: Isaiah Miles, African American, 22 years old, resident of Valdosta

On July 10, 2024, at approximately 10:35 a.m., numerous first responders responded to the 700 block of East Mary Street after a citizen called 911 and reported he had been shot. When Valdosta Police officers arrived to the area, they found two brothers, both in their late 30s, suffering from gunshot wounds. They immediately administered first aid until the Valdosta Fire Department and paramedics from South Georgia Medical Center Emergency Medical Services arrived. The two brothers were transported to South Georgia Medical Center. One man sustained non-life threatening injuries while the other is currently in critical condition.

Witnesses reported seeing a tall, thin African American man wearing dark pants and a white shirt running from the area. Other witnesses reported seeing tattoos on his face.

Since the shooting, detectives have continued to analyze surveillance video from the area.

On July 14, 2024, Valdosta Police Officers received a tip that the individual involved in this shooting was in the area of ​​the 1300 block of Ponderosa Drive. The caller also advised that he had the firearm on him. Officers quickly arrived at the area and observed 22-year-old Isaiah Miles, who matched the tipster’s description. He was quickly arrested. Officers also located the firearm in the area where they came into contact with Miles.

Detectives responded and questioned Miles. Through the investigation, Miles was identified as being involved in the shooting. Miles was transported to the Lowndes County Jail and charged with two counts of aggravated assault (felony), two counts of aggravated battery (felony), and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime (felony).

“We are grateful for the many tips we receive from citizens. I am proud of the response of our officers, who quickly followed up on this specific tip. This enabled us to take a dangerous criminal off our streets,” said Police Chief Leslie Manahan.

Both victims are still being treated and are in stable condition.

The investigation is ongoing and further charges are pending.
