Man sentenced to eleven years in prison for ‘horrific’ sexual abuse of a child

Asuk Hussain, aged 53, from Dewsbury, was sentenced to 11 years in prison at Leeds Crown Court on Friday 13 July.

His sentence was the latest in Operation Tourway, a recent, multi-year investigation into the sexual exploitation of young women in North Kirklees.

Hussain was sentenced after previously being found guilty of rape. The victim was a young teenager at the time of the incident in the Kirklees area around 20 years ago.

Bradford Crown Court heard that Hussain had seen the victim in her school uniform before the incident and had taken advantage of her when she needed accommodation.

Hussain’s conviction makes him the 26th man to be sentenced as part of Operation Tourway. His conviction means the courts have now handed down a total of 378 years in prison for the men convicted as part of the investigation, including defendants from Batley and Heckmondwike.

Operation Tourway is a lengthy investigation into the sexual abuse and human trafficking of eight female victims in North Kirklees between 1999 and 2012.

DCI Oliver Coates, of Kirklees District Police, said: “We welcome this latest verdict under Operation Tourway, which takes us another step forward in convicting all the men found guilty of these horrific offences.

“Leeds Crown Court heard that Asuk Hussain was aware of his victim’s vulnerability and took full advantage of her for his own sexual gratification.

“She was forced to relive that ordeal during the trial, but I hope she can take some satisfaction today in seeing Hussain convicted for his crimes.

He added: “We continue to urge any victims of sexual assault who may not have reported what happened to them to contact us.

“All reports are thoroughly investigated by specialist officers who can also connect victims with the support they may need.”
