Serving Metropolitan Police officer accused of sexual assault – South London news

A serving Metropolitan Police officer has been charged with sexual assault following an incident in December 2022.

Detective Constable Jose Poonsawat of the Central South Command Unit was charged at Croydon Magistrates Court on Friday.

He pleaded guilty and was released on bail to appear for sentencing on August 23.

Poonsawat was accused of sexually touching a woman without her consent during an incident outside of work on December 16, 2022.

He was examined by officers from Bromley and the Met’s domestic violence and sexual offences team.

Commander Seb Adjei-Addoh, who heads Lambeth and Southwark police, said: “My thoughts are with the victim who showed courage in reporting this sexual assault.

“Officials are rightly held accountable by the courts for misconduct.

“In this case, Poonsawat has pleaded guilty and is now awaiting sentencing.”

Now that the criminal proceedings have been concluded, a misconduct trial will now begin.
