Introducing Carter Holton

Carter Holton is a 5’11”, 191 lb. left-handed pitcher out of Vanderbilt. Holton’s name may sound familiar here as he was a highly rated recruit out of a Georgia high school three years ago. Holton is a youngster with four solid pitches or better, with his fastball having reached 98 MPH and his slider being his best pitch. The curve and changeup are both solid, as is his control after improving this spring. Holton has been dealing with injuries, which has affected him late in the season this spring. If healthy, he may still be a bit of a reliever risk, but he has a bunch of ingredients the Braves like in their pitchers with all four pitches shining as above-average or better pitches and improved control this year.

First reaction

Holton has some injury concerns, but the Braves have been willing to take risks on players like that in the past in order to get a higher-level talent. Holton has an electric fastball that comes off a low release, two traits the Braves have coveted in the past. Holton also fits the profile and athleticism, and the Braves are never afraid of players with relief concerns. Overall, this seems like another solid pick, and the Braves are confident in their development staff to help improve the players’ command and maximize their pitching.
