Underage driver arrested after theft and vandalism at Macomb County car dealership

According to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office, an underage driver was recently arrested after causing a car crash in Detroit. The incident came on the heels of the theft of three cars from a used car dealership in Roseville, as well as incidents at other dealerships in Macomb County.

The Macomb Auto Theft Squad, with assistance from detectives from Clinton Township, Roseville and Sterling Heights, was conducting surveillance early Wednesday morning due to a recent increase in auto thefts when a St. Clair Shores car dealership was broken into and a BMW was stolen from the showroom, police said in a news release. The vehicle was later found abandoned in Detroit.

Later, six masked individuals were observed at Moran Chevrolet in Clinton Township. Private security personnel frightened the individuals, causing them to leave the building, police said. No vehicles were stolen, but the individuals caused damage to the building’s windows.

Around 5 a.m., the same suspects smashed a glass window at Dorian Ford in Clinton Township and ransacked the interior of the business, but no vehicles were taken, police said.

An hour later, suspects broke into A&B Motors in Roseville. They stole three vehicles, including a Dodge Durango, a Dodge Charger and a Ford EcoSport. The cars left the area and headed west on Interstate 94, pursued by patrol cars from Roseville, St. Clair Shores and Eastpointe, officials said.

According to police, the driver of the Ford crashed into a tree on Casino Drive at Moross Road between Kelly Road and I-94 and the minor driver was arrested.

The Charger lies abandoned in east Detroit.
