Man killed by Buffalo police

The early morning hours of Wednesday, July 10, 2024 were a busy time for Buffalo Police officers as reports surfaced of shots fired by officers and a man reported dead.

According to the Buffalo News, the shooting happened near Kensington Ave and Poultney Ave in Buffalo’s University District just after midnight.

The man, whose identity has not been released by police investigators, was rushed to Erie County Medical Center on Grider Street in Buffalo, where he was pronounced dead.

Buffalo police homicide detectives and internal affairs officers are investigating the shooting. Additionally, New York state law requires that officers involved in shootings be investigated by the New York State Attorney General’s Office.

No further information has been released or made available by the Buffalo Police Department or City Hall.

The last time someone was killed by the Buffalo Police Department was Feb. 24, 2024, when officers shot and killed Edward Holmes, 58, on Reed Street near Sycamore.
