Josefina Cunningham’s family criticizes Robert Fisher’s guilty plea, who admits to the rape and murder of a three-year-old girl and says: “It’s not over yet”

The man accused of raping and killing a three-year-old girl has pleaded guilty two weeks before his murder trial was due to begin.

Robert Fisher, 34, changed his plea to guilty on Tuesday to the murder of Josefina Cunningham, who was found foaming at the mouth in her family’s home in Rensselaer, New York, just outside Albany, on July 7, 2023.

Fisher’s trial was scheduled to begin on July 31.

Jy’Quan Stewart, Josefina’s older brother, sharply attacked his sister’s killer and said the pressure of facing the family in court was too much for Fisher.

“It all happened so quickly. I don’t think he could stand being in a courtroom,” Stewart told the US Sun on Tuesday after learning of Fisher’s confession.

“Too much pressure, too much media in there. He wouldn’t be able to handle it.”

“For me, it’s not over yet. I still intend to seek the death penalty.”

At the time of her murder, Josefina was in the care of Fisher, who was dating the child’s mother.

Stewart, 23, described the shock he and his mother felt when they learned of Fisher’s change of confession.

“I was really shocked, two weeks before the trial. So that means he admitted he did it.

“She told me she was very shocked and just very surprised that he pleaded guilty because first (when he was first arrested) the police had pinned him to the ground and he said, ‘It wasn’t me.’

“Now, two weeks before he pleaded guilty.”

I want him to pay for his crimes. I want him to receive the death penalty.

Stewart told The US Sun that a life sentence was not enough for his little sister’s murderer.

“I want him to pay for his crimes. I want him to get the death penalty,” said the angry brother.

“People who commit these crimes must pay for it, they must get the death penalty. This crime was really heinous, it was really heinous.”

“I want the world to see this. They need to be shocked. They need to know that they can’t do something like this.”
