Tragic accidental shooting at George Nourse range claims life of Nampa man

Canyon County, Idaho – A sad and tragic incident overshadowed the Fourth of July weekend when an accidental shooting took the life of a young man at the George Nourse Gun Range south of Nampa. On July 5, 2024, at approximately 5:00 p.m., the Canyon County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) responded to a 911 call reporting an accidental discharge of a firearm.

Upon arrival, CCSO officers discovered a 26-year-old man named Evan Michael Chase of Nampa who had been shot in the abdomen. The incident occurred when another man attempted to unload a rifle and accidentally fired a shot. Despite immediate life-saving measures on scene, Chase tragically succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

Sheriff Kieran Donahue expressed his condolences, stating: “This was a tragic incident that unfortunately took the life of a young man this past Fourth of July weekend. My sincere condolences go out to his family and friends. Unfortunately, this is also a grim reminder of how deadly firearms can be and why they should always be handled with the utmost caution.”
