Man found dead near home after shooting in Union, police said

UNION, SC (FOX Carolina) – The Union Public Safety Department said an investigation is underway after a man was found dead following a shooting late Saturday night.

According to police, officers were called to the scene on Cottage Avenue around 11:38 p.m. for a shooting.

When they arrived on scene, they found a man lying in the grass next to a house with a gunshot wound. The Union County Coroner was notified and the victim was later identified as 34-year-old Rodney Cornelius Whitener.

Whitener lived in the home where he was found, officials said.

No arrests have been made so far.
