Brother reveals the moment a three-year-old girl’s body was found covered in blood after being ‘raped and murdered by her mother’s boyfriend’

A distraught brother recalled the horrific moment when he learned that his little sister had allegedly been brutally raped and murdered by his mother’s boyfriend.

3-year-old Josefina Cunningham was found on July 7, 2023 in a bedroom at her family’s home in Rensselaer, New York, just outside of Albany.

Little Josefina was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Rensselaer police arrested 33-year-old Robert Fisher, who they said attempted to re-enter the crime scene and hinder the police investigation.

Officials in Rensselaer County described Josefina’s murder as difficult and heinous.

“This was absolutely abhorrent. This is not what the average investigator, the average prosecutor, expects,” District Attorney Mary Pat Donnelly told reporters after Fisher’s arraignment in August.

Donnelly said Josephine remained in Fisher’s care.

“It was very difficult for everyone – the innocence of the child, the brutality of the crime,” the district attorney added.

“It’s just horrifying for people. We’re coming forward knowing there’s going to be things that you can’t forget, you can’t forget, you can’t forget, you can’t forget, you can’t forget,” Rensselaer Police Captain Robert Appleton previously told the Times Union.

She said she found Josefina with bruises all over her body and bloodstains on the bed.

Jy’Quan Stewart, Josefina’s older brother, remembered the moment his aunt told him his little sister had been killed.

“I was really shocked. I got in a Lyft car and drove straight to my house. Then I saw yellow tape outside, police cars, everything was locked,” 23-year-old Stewart told the US Sun.

“I remember seeing my mother and telling her where Robert (Fisher) was. She said the police put him on the ground and took him to the station.

“She said she found Josefina with bruises all over her body and blood on the bed.”

A shocked Stewart learned from investigators that his sister had been raped and murdered.

GUT FEELING

The grieving brother told the US Sun how his mother introduced Fisher to her children a few days before his sister was murdered.

Stewart said he sensed something was wrong with Fisher the first time he saw him.

“When I first met him, something inside me felt weird. It was a little weird. I just had a gut feeling,” he said, adding that his mother had only been dating Fisher for a week.

“I’ve never seen my mother with a white man. Maybe that’s why, but I never talked to her (about her relationship) – it was like she was hypnotized.

“She was too in love with him. It was kind of weird, actually.”

Fisher pleaded not guilty to charges of rape, murder, obstruction of government, resisting arrest and criminal damage.

Stewart recalled being in a daze about the charges against his sister’s alleged killer: “I still remember the arraignment when he pleaded not guilty and there was a storm of indignation in the courtroom.”

“I was still in shock. I just couldn’t believe that this was happening.

“This has never really happened before. It all felt unreal.”

“It felt like a dream. It just didn’t feel real.”

Fisher is being held without bail and his trial is scheduled to begin on July 31.
