Roya News | FIFA seeks legal advice on Palestinian call to suspend Israeli occupation association

On Friday, FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced that the organization would seek independent legal advice regarding the Palestinian Football Association’s request to suspend the Israeli occupation association over the aggression in the Gaza Strip.

Infantino said FIFA would convene an extraordinary council meeting before July 20 to assess the legal findings and determine the next steps.

The Palestinian Football Association has called for the immediate suspension of the Israeli occupation force’s membership in FIFA. At a meeting in Bangkok, Palestinian Football Association President Jibril Rajoub called on Infantino to take decisive action against the Israeli occupation, similar to measures taken during previous conflicts.

The Israeli occupation’s football association rejected the Palestinian demand as “cynical”.

On Thursday, new FIFA Secretary General Matthias Grafström announced that the organisation would propose binding sanctions for racist offences, including match cancellations, to its general assembly. The proposal was outlined in a letter to all 211 member associations.

During the 74th Congress in Bangkok, FIFA discussed the situation in the Gaza Strip at the request of the Palestinian Football Association, which is calling for sanctions against the football association of the Israeli occupying power due to serious human rights violations.

In January, Prince Ali bin Al-Hussein of the Jordanian and West Asian Football Association called for international action to end the Israeli occupation’s aggression in the Gaza Strip. He mobilized support from Arab and international football associations to isolate the Israeli occupation and apply international standards to the situation.

The Jordanian Football Association is a staunch supporter of the Palestinian cause within FIFA and calls for international support to isolate the Israeli occupation.
