Reactions to the presidential debate | 11vivant.com

On Friday, many Atlanta residents who followed the event said they were unimpressed with either candidate.

ATLANTA — President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump faced off during the CNN presidential debate Thursday night in Atlanta. Voters are now reacting to their words.

During the debate, Biden and Trump exchanged views on a range of topics, from immigration to abortion to Medicare, among others.

On Friday, many Atlantans who watched the event said they were unimpressed with either candidate.

“It was hard to watch. Neither of them sounded very good,” said Tara Radford, an Atlanta resident who was among millions of people who tuned in to watch the debate, hoping her candidate would do well but changed her mind after the event.

“I came as a Biden supporter. I’m a Democrat and happy to be one, but I’m not sure today,” Radford added.

She is not alone. Other Atlanta residents said the debate did more to dissuade them than solidify a vote.

“In my head, I’ve already decided who I’m going to vote for, but last night didn’t make me feel any better about what the next four years will look like,” Grubery added.

Debate nights, like the one held at the iconic Manuel’s Tavern in Midtown, were also hosted during the event, allowing residents to voice their reactions in real time.

“I don’t know if undecided voters are convinced by what they’re doing up there,” said Katie, an Atlanta resident.

Some participants specifically pointed out that neither President Joe Biden nor former President Donald Trump provided satisfactory answers to questions on crucial issues such as reproductive rights, health care equity and the health crisis. accommodation.

“The housing crisis is very real. I would like to buy a house one day and I think it’s getting harder and harder. I haven’t heard anyone come up with a plan that would actually make things easier. So it’s a bit disappointing,” she added.

Health care equity was also top of mind for voters who followed the debate.

“The death rate for black women, the fact that black women don’t get a lot of health care and the fact that sometimes we need advocacy. I don’t think any of them answered the question well, but I was more pleased with Joe Biden’s answer,” said Kisha Ward, another attendee at the debate watch party in Atlanta.

Yet others have chosen to avoid the debate altogether.

“I think both presidencies are pretty well defined. I don’t think anything I would hear or have heard at the debate is new information that I didn’t know about the four years of Biden or the four years of Trump. We have a very, very good idea of who they are and what they’re going to do in office,” said Atlanta resident Jason Tucker.

Voters still have 130 days to decide which candidate they will support, as the election will take place on November 5.
