Man headbutts woman and sexually abuses her at home: Des Plaines Police

DES PLAINES, IL — A Des Plaines man is facing three felony charges, including aggravated sexual assault, following an incident at his home Sunday. In addition to that charge, Benjamin Redzic, 49, of the 900 block of South Sixth Avenue, is charged with aggravated kidnapping, false imprisonment, and misdemeanor domestic violence and obstruction of reporting domestic violence.

Redzic, who remains behind bars in the Cook County Jail, is due in court on Wednesday.

According to police, officers arrived at the home around 10:3 p.m. on Sunday for a domestic violence report. Police found the female victim in the front yard and said Redzic hit her and said he was going to kill her. Redzic, who was also outside, was arrested.

A subsequent investigation revealed that Redzic allegedly entered the bedroom where the victim was lying in bed. He then pushed her shoulders down and headbutted her in the forehead. The victim was able to get her phone from the nightstand and told Redzic she was going to call 911 when he grabbed the phone, threw it and put his hand around her throat while holding her shoulders with his other hand, police said.

The victim was able to push Redzic away and ran into her daughter’s room to use her phone. She got the phone, locked herself in the bathroom and called the police while Redzic kept saying he was going to kill her. At the same time, Redzic allegedly sexually abused her, but police are not releasing these details “out of respect for the victim.”

The victim was taken to a local hospital where she was found to have suffered bruising to her neck, arms and chest.
