FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WSVN) – A man who hit a woman on an electric bike, helped her up and then rode away was arrested after a Crime Stoppers tip led investigators to his Hollywood home, authorities said.

The incident occurred on Friday, May 31, shortly before 9 p.m. in the 4500 block of South Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale.

Officers with the Broward Sheriff’s Office and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded to a 911 call reporting a person lying in the roadway.

The victim, Margarita Lopez, was taken to Broward Health Medical Center for treatment.

Investigators determined that Lopez was struck by a silver SUV as she rode her electric bike southbound through the tunnel on South Federal Highway.

Surveillance video showed the driver stopping, helping Lopez, leaning her bike against the wall and then fleeing the scene.

On Monday, investigators received a tip from Crime Stoppers that led them to the Hollywood home of 76-year-old Ritchie Jacobs.

Jacobs was booked into the BSO Main Jail and is charged with failure to stop or stop for an accident that resulted in serious injury.
