First weather warning: Yellow warning on Sunday due to severe weather

ROCHESTER, NY — Waking up this Sunday morning will start off very warm, as temperatures will initially be around 80 degrees.

However, temperatures will not rise significantly later in the day due to increasing cloud cover and the possibility of severe storms. The yellow warning is in effect for Sunday due to the risk of severe weather. A line of showers and storms will develop late Sunday morning and move through our region into the early afternoon. As this line moves east, there is a risk of gusty winds and locally heavy rain. In addition, a stray thunderstorm will attempt to move in.

Sunday afternoon will be a little calmer, with sun mixing with clouds before scattered showers and thunderstorms move in during the evening hours. The strong threat of scattered thunderstorms will continue through the evening hours and will subside as the sun sets. Despite the thunderstorms, our area will be windy through Sunday afternoon, with wind gusts approaching 30 mph at times. Late Sunday, the wind direction will change from southwest to northwest, bringing cooler air for Monday.

After some showers on Monday morning, the skies will clear up and offer a refreshing Monday afternoon.
