Three people were arrested after stealing a Fairfax County, Virginia police car and driving into another officer’s patrol car during a stolen vehicle investigation.
Investigation on Friday at Fair Oaks Mall.

Police said Eric Gutierrez, 30, of Ashland, was charged with grand theft auto, grand larceny and speeding. Two warrants were also issued for his arrest and for Natrua Mayfield-Jackson, 28. Kenton Smith, 46, was charged with unauthorized use and grand larceny.

The incident began around 11:35 a.m. when an officer found a 2010 Toyota Corolla with three occupants that had been reported stolen in Maryland.

According to Sergeant Jacob Pearce of the Fairfax County Police Department, the officer “made contact with the suspects” before Smith, the driver, attempted to walk away from the vehicle. Officers said Gutierrez, a passenger, exited the stolen vehicle and got into the officer’s patrol car.

Gutierrez drove off while police pursued him, resulting in a brief chase before he collided with two patrol cars, police said. As a result of the crash, he and two officers sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Gutierrez, Smith and Mayfield-Jackson – another passenger in the stolen vehicle – were taken into custody at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
