Drowning in Johnston County at Tucker Lake

BENSON, NC (WNCN) — Multiple emergency crews responded to a drowning incident in Tucker Lake in Johnston County early Saturday afternoon, officials said.

According to the Johnston County Emergency Management Center, authorities received a 911 call shortly before 1 p.m. Saturday about a drowning victim at Tucker Lake, 3025 Allens Crossroads Road near Benson. The lake is located just off Interstate 40 near the Interstate 95 interchange.

A 12 or 13-year-old boy had an accident in the lake and was rescued from Tucker Lake, Johnston County Captain Jeff Caldwell told CBS 17.

Emergency responders were taking the boy to WakeMed when he died, Caldwell said. Officials arrived at the scene.

“This appears to be a tragic accident,” Caldwell said.

The boy’s name will not be released until his immediate family has been contacted, Caldwell said.

Johnston County EMS and Benson Fire Department also responded to the call, officials said.
