50 Cent is accused of avoiding giving evidence in microphone throwing case

Power 106 host Bryhana Monegain has asked a California court to compel 50 Cent to testify after she sued him for throwing a microphone at her. According to court documents obtained by In Touch Weekly, Monegain asked the court for help because several attempts to get him to testify have failed.

“Since the August 5, 2024 mediation date is still pending, an order must be issued immediately requiring (50 Cent) to appear for testimony and give a statement,” her lawyers argued.

Monegain’s legal team had previously scheduled a deposition for June 13, but never got around to interviewing 50 Cent. She demanded a $5,000 fine.

50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, threw a microphone into the crowd at a concert in Los Angeles in August 2023. The microphone hit Monegain in the face.

“My client Curtis would never intentionally hit someone with a microphone,” the rapper’s lawyer said in 2023. “Anyone who claims otherwise does not know all the facts and is misinformed.”

The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office declined to file charges against 50 Cent. Monegan sued him in January for negligence.

“Plaintiff was transported by ambulance to the emergency room at Los Angeles General Medical Center where she was treated for her injuries, which included a concussion, a laceration above her forehead, and pain in her left wrist,” her attorneys wrote. “Plaintiff complained of dizziness, headaches, sensitivity to light and sound, and nausea, and continues to suffer from her severe injuries and emotional distress.”

Monegain’s lawyers were confident their arguments were strong.

“No matter who the attacker is, this alleged act of negligence and violence is unacceptable and we will hold 50 Cent and his co-defendants accountable for their alleged actions,” her legal team said in a press statement. “Mr. Jackson himself has previously said, ‘If it’s not about money, buddy, then I’m not worried,’ so we are confident that our client will be fairly and justly compensated for the injuries she sustained.”

Monegain demanded an undisclosed amount of damages. She wanted 50 cents to cover her medical and legal costs.
