Police officer suspended for attacking street vendor

The Superintendent of Police (SP) (Vellore) issued a suspension notice against a constable of Gudiyatham Town police station for attacking a pani puri vendor.

According to police, 38-year-old constable S. Arun Kanmani was suspended by SP N. Manivannan under the Tamil Nadu Police Subordinate Services Disciplinary and Appointment Rules, 1955.

Police said the constable frequently visited the shop of pani puri seller K. Ram Babu, 28, near the bus stand on Gudiyatham Main Road.

On June 12, an argument broke out after Arun complained about the quality of food in the shop. The policeman attacked Ram, who sustained injuries. He was taken to Government Taluk Hospital.

Based on a complaint by Ram, the Gudiyatham city police registered a case. An investigation conducted by the district police found the policeman guilty.

Accordingly, the SP issued a suspension order against the police officer with immediate effect.
