Palghar rape case

Earlier in May, the Palghar district police in Maharashtra on Monday arrested two suspects on charges of raping a 15-year-old girl, police told PTI.

According to PTI, the accused were held in Talasari under Section 376 (rape) and other relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, an official said.

Both men are in their mid-20s, the officer said.

One of the accused befriended the victim through Instagram and took her to his home on April 30, where he raped her, he said, according to PTI.

On May 4, the two accused repeatedly raped the girl at different locations, the official said.

The duo identified themselves under false names but were tracked down by police based on intelligence and technical information, he said.

The accused will remain in police custody until May 9 and further investigations are ongoing, the official told the news agency.

Man in Uttar Pradesh arrested after 40 years on the run in kidnapping and rape case

Mumbai Police have arrested a 70-year-old man from Agra in Uttar Pradesh, who was on the run for the last 40 years in a kidnapping and rape case, an official said on Tuesday, PTI reported on Tuesday.

The accused was identified as Papa alias Dawood Bandu Khan, he said.

He said he had been taken to Mumbai in custody and would be produced before the court here.

“In 1984, a case of kidnapping and rape was opened against Khan based on a complaint by a woman,” he said.
Khan was arrested in this case and is out on bail.

During the investigation, it emerged that he was somewhere in the northern states, the official said.

Over the years, various police teams have tried to search for him, but he has remained untraceable, he said.

“However, police officials recently received concrete information that he is staying with his family in Agra. Accordingly, a police team was sent to this city in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh where Khan was arrested,” the official said.
