Man arrested for rape in Jashore

Police have arrested a man on suspicion of raping a fifth-grade student in Keshabpur upazila of Jashore.

The arrested man, Liton Sheikh, 38, a rickshaw driver, was arrested from Sanyasgachha village in the upazila last night in connection with the arrest. The victim’s mother had filed the case at Keshabpur police station on Friday evening, reports our correspondent from Benapole.

Liton allegedly raped the girl on Friday afternoon while she was cutting grass near a fish pen in the village. He fled before locals arrived at the scene and heard the girl’s screams.

“Liton was produced before a court in Jashore this morning,” said Debashish Roy, investigating inspector of the police station.
