13-year-old boy killed in shooting on West Side

CHICAGO – An investigation began Friday evening after a teenager was shot and killed on the city’s West Side.

According to Chicago police, the fatal shooting occurred shortly before 8:30 p.m. in the 1300 block of South Independence Boulevard in North Lawndale.

According to officials, the victim, a 13-year-old boy, was standing on a sidewalk in the area when an unknown person opened fire.

The boy suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was taken to hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

It is currently unclear what led to the shooting, and police say no arrests have been made yet.

The investigation into the fatal shooting is currently ongoing, but authorities have not yet identified the victim.
