Balderrama excluded from Atlanta-based police conference

Fresno Police Chief Paco Balderrama will no longer speak at a conference in Atlanta after being placed on administrative leave.

Balderrama was scheduled to speak at Flock Forward this week.

Driving the news: Balderrama was placed on paid administrative leave Wednesday while the city investigates an affair he had for more than two years with an officer’s wife.

• He was scheduled to speak at the Flock Forward 2024 conference to discuss the Fresno Police Department’s use of license plate readers.

• Fresno police sources told The Sun that Balderrama’s leave was expected to take effect after the conference ended.

The big picture: By Thursday afternoon, Balderrama’s name had been removed from the Flock Forward website as a speaker.

• The Flock Forward organizer said Balderrama was scheduled to speak but would no longer be part of the event.
