Here are the numbers on Keon Coleman’s rookie contract with the Buffalo Bills

On Wednesday, it was reported that Keon Coleman signed his four-year rookie contract to play for the Buffalo Bills. What we weren’t sure of at the time was the precise numbers involved, although we could make an educated guess based on the players drafted at or around the time of Coleman’s selection.

As the Bills’ first overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Coleman landed with Buffalo at pick 33 — the first pick of the second round and the first name called on Day 2. The front office worked the phone lines to trade twice as part of an offer. to land Coleman and a third-round pick this weekend.

Given that Coleman was selected outside of the first round as the Bills’ first pick, his contract doesn’t look like the 32 players selected before him. The only key difference is that Buffalo does not have a fifth-year option clause to exercise later, which is attached to all players drafted in the first round.

However, the fifth-year option is not perfect for all players, nor for certain key positions. The main positions where exercising the fifth-year option is attractive are quarterbacks and wide receivers. Drafting Coleman in the second round essentially speeds up the evaluation process, and if things go well, the Bills could look to do something after year three.

But for now, Keon Coleman is doing well, signing a deal that will pay him $10,074,258 over four years, with an average annual salary of $2,518,565 and a signing bonus of $4,146,732 . Details of Coleman’s contract were made available by Spotracand shared succinctly in the tweet below from Built in Buffalo.

Keon Coleman’s cap hit for 2024 is $1,831,683, while the money given to him for 2024 is $4,941,732. Considering Coleman’s $4,146,732 signing bonus alone, he now has the opportunity to purchase 51,834 $80 jackets at Macy’s. All Coleman needs at this point is an endorsement deal with the department store chain.
