4-year-old boy hit and killed by car driver in Avalon Park

According to Chicago police, a 4-year-old boy was killed Sunday when he was hit by a pickup truck in Avalon Park.

The driver of the pickup truck was traveling west and attempted to turn north into the 8100 block of South Harper Avenue around 5:24 p.m. when he struck a 4-year-old boy, police said. The child was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital, where he later died.

The driver was charged with failure to yield right of way; the investigation is ongoing.
