Man in Joliet, Illinois, charged with series of murders that left 8 dead

JOLIET, Ill. (CBS) — A man was arrested in connection with a Series of eight murders in Joliet, Illinoisin January of this year, the Will County Sheriff’s Office said.

According to authorities, 24-year-old Jon W. Hansen of Shorewood is charged with three counts of murder, attempted first-degree murder and aggravated assault with a firearm.

Officials say during an interrogation on Jan. 27, Hansen admitted to being with suspected gunman Romeo Nance during the two Jan. 21 shootings in the Joliet area of ​​Mario Guerrero and Toyosi Bakare. Nance, 23, later fled to Texas and took his own life during a chase. Officials say Hansen told investigators Nance gave him the gun used to shoot one of the victims and he threw it in the DuPage River near his home.

Hansen declined to provide any further information, but detectives said they were able to locate a loaded black Springfield Armory XDS pistol during a search in the DuPage River near the intersection of Westshore Drive and Picnic Street in Shorewood, Illinois on February 5.

Hansen was arrested on Friday and held without bail. He is awaiting his first court date.
