Passenger dies after jumping from world’s largest cruise ship

A passenger died after jumping from the world’s largest cruise ship on the first night of his week-long voyage, officials said.

The unidentified man jumped from Royal Caribbean’s new, 1,200-foot-long Icon of the Seas – which carries 7,600 passengers and 2,350 crew – shortly after the ship left Florida for Honduras on Sunday morning, the Coast Guard told The Post.

“The cruise ship deployed one of its lifeboats, located the man and brought him back on board,” the Coast Guard said.

“He was pronounced dead. Other than assisting with the search, the U.S. Coast Guard had no significant involvement in this incident,” the agency added.

The Post has contacted Royal Caribbean for comment.

According to CruiseHive, the ship was only about 300 miles from PortMiami at the time of the incident.

The ship paused for about two hours while members of the 2,350-strong Coast Guard crew assisted in their search and rescue mission.

The jumper was brought back on board in critical condition before succumbing to his injuries, the report said.

Guests aboard the 7,600-passenger ship shared videos of the rescue mission, with some expressing shock that he was initially found alive.

Others shared clips of the lifeboats moving away from the cruise ship to rescue the passenger.

The 366-meter-long ship has 20 decks and is almost as big as four city blocks.

It features a 1500 m² water park with six water slides and seven pools – including the 1.6 hectare Royal Bay pool, which at 160,000 litres is the largest pool at sea – and Absolute Zero, the largest ice skating rink at sea.

There is also a theater, a carousel and over 40 restaurants, bars and lounges on board.
