Chance of severe storms Friday evening

EAST TEXAS (KLTV) – Later this evening, isolated strong to severe thunderstorms are again possible for some East Texas residents, primarily in areas along and north of Highway 79.

Skies are expected to remain dry throughout the afternoon until a cold front moves closer to the I-30 corridor later today. This should create just enough surface pressure to create isolated strong to severe storms to our northwest around 4:00-5:00 p.m. Once the storms break out along and ahead of the cold front, they will move southeastward across East Texas during the remainder of the evening hours, possibly until 12:00-1:00 a.m. tonight.

Several East Texas schools are hosting graduation ceremonies tonight, meaning any storm, strong or not, could severely impact people out and about celebrating the graduates of 2024. Although most of our storms tonight favor the northern half of East Texas, it would still be a very good idea for everyone to stay weather-advised for safety. Heavy hail and damaging winds are possible with any strong storm, with a small chance of an isolated tornado.
