Vandalism at Lombard Café leads to police investigation – NBC10 Philadelphia

A business in Philadelphia’s Society Hill neighborhood said it was the target of a hate crime this week.

Police are investigating a break-in at Lombard Cafe that occurred sometime between 6 p.m. Tuesday and 7:45 a.m. Wednesday.

The Arab company’s cash register was damaged and stickers reading “We stand with Israel” were posted throughout the store.

Police were told nothing was taken from the register.

The owner of Lombard Cafe says she and her customers have also been harassed for their support of Palestinians

“I don’t understand why Jazmine and the cafe are getting so much attack and unrelenting attention. This is a beloved institution. “I’m a Jew and it’s really disturbing to see Jewish stars being used in this way,” Lombard Cafe customer Arielle Cohen said.

On Friday, the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) was joined by faith leaders and community members in condemning the break-in, calling it a hate crime.

The group took to Instagram ahead of the rally outside the cafe and gave further insight into what they believe happened.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to address the incident and condemn vandalism of any kind against businesses.

Governor Shapiro also says the Pennsylvania State Police are in contact with the Philadelphia Police Department regarding the investigation.

Investigators say they have not yet determined the motive behind this vandalism.
