“Boardwalk Empire” star Steve Buscemi was attacked by a man in an unprovoked attack in New York

Boardwalk Empire star Steve Buscemi was attacked by a man in broad daylight while strolling through Kips Bay in New York City. The suspect walked up to the 66-year-old Brooklyn native and struck him in a completely unprovoked attack.

Buscemi was taken to Bellevue Hospital after suffering from swelling to his left eye and face. Police said the attacker had disappeared and was still on the run.

“Steve Buscemi was attacked in midtown Manhattan, another victim of random violence in the city,” Buscemi’s publicist told the New York Post. “He is doing well and appreciates everyone’s well wishes, although he is incredibly sad for everyone that this happened while he was also walking the streets of New York.”

“I saw him stumble and fall backwards”

Police said the attack occurred at around 11:48 a.m. on Wednesday, May 8. A worker in the area who witnessed part of the attack said: “I saw he was with a woman and then I saw him stumble through the corner of the window and fall backwards. He immediately got up and ran in the opposite direction. I didn’t see who hit him.”

“It worries me when we close because we close at 11 and it can get scary at that time,” the woman, who identified herself as Nat, added.

The New York Police Department has released surveillance photos of the alleged attacker. The bearded man wears a baseball cap, a blue T-shirt and black sweatpants.

In a similar incident on March 31, actor Michael Stuhbarg was hit in the neck with a rock in another unprovoked attack. The star was on the Upper East Side at the time. A deranged tramp named Xavier Israel was arrested by the NYPD in connection with the attack, which occurred near East 90th Street and East Drive around 7:45 p.m.
