Arsenal moved amid Bruno Guimarae’s transfer alert shortly after the Newcastle game

After a tearful performance following Newcastle’s 1-1 draw with Brighton at St James’ Park, Bruno Guimaraes appears to have put Arsenal on high alert for a potential summer move.

The Brazilian had an emotional moment as the final whistle blew at St James’ Park. Speculation about his future destination is rife, with Arsenal and Manchester City reportedly showing strong interest and the Brazilian crying after the Brighton game.

A carefully negotiated £100m release clause is included in Guimaraes’ current contract with Newcastle, which expires in June, although his contract runs until 2028. Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has previously hinted at his intention to build a strong lineup around Guimaraes.

He said: “It goes without saying how I feel about the situation with Bruno. We want to keep him, we want to build our team around him and he is an integral part of our work. His form has been very good, he seems very happy and content, he will be thinking about a busy summer and where we can hopefully take the team,” reports the Manchester Evening News.

“He’s a big part of it. I’m aware of his contract status, but that’s not my focus. If it’s something you don’t necessarily have control over, I don’t worry about it.”

Due to Financial Fair Play restrictions, Newcastle could be forced to sell this summer. Previously, Howe noted: “Where we are now in terms of wages and transfer fees, I don’t think we’re in a position to do that.”
