Tulsa Police Release Body Camera Video of an Officer-Involved Shooting in December 2023 | News

TULSA, Okla. – Tulsa Police released body camera video Friday of an officer-involved shooting on Dec. 27, 2023.

At 12:51 a.m., TPD responded to a 911 call regarding an armed robbery at the Tudor House Inn on East Archer Street.

The victim said he was attacked and robbed by a suspect, later identified as Aaron Gonzalez, who had a gun. Gonzalez also fired the gun into the air during the incident.

After arriving at the scene, officers reviewed security footage that corroborated the victim’s statement and showed the suspect also pointing a handgun at another guest.

Witnesses also confirmed the victim’s account.

Police secured the area and attempted to speak with the suspect, who gave contradictory statements and ignored police statements.

Gonzalez fired a round into the room while officers surrounded the room, and it was not clear whether he fired at officers.

He then left the room by attempting to disguise himself as an old man and left the scene on foot, sparking a pursuit.

Gonzalez ran toward an area where civilians were present.

TPD said because Gonzalez had no regard for the safety of others, an officer fired his weapon to stop him from endangering citizens. Gonzalez was then arrested by police and received medical treatment at the scene before being taken to the hospital.

Investigators searched his room and found a weapon believed to have been used in the robbery. Police also found evidence of where in the room a gun was fired.

Gonzalez was charged with discharging a weapon into a dwelling, obstructing an officer and possessing a weapon after previously being convicted of a felony.

He pleaded guilty to the charges and is currently serving an eight-year sentence at the Lexington Assessment and Reception Center in Lexington, Oklahoma.

All evidence was presented to the Tulsa County District Attorney’s Office, which deemed the officer’s shooting justified.
