Kent Police investigate attempted kidnapping of young girl through her bathroom window

It came just days after an attempted kidnapping in Kent, where three 11-year-old girls stopped a man from taking a six-year-old girl near their apartment complex.

KENT, Wash. – Kent police are investigating an attempted kidnapping that occurred Friday night.

Kent Police said officers were called to an apartment at 700 East James Street just before 11 p.m. on Friday, July 19, after a 911 caller reported a man reaching through the window and kidnapping the young daughter.

The girl’s parents told police that the girl was in the bathroom when an unknown man reached through the window, threatened her, grabbed her by the hair and tried to drag her through the window.

Police said the suspect fled and Kent police were searching for him with several dog teams and the King County Guardian 1 helicopter.

Chelsea Sadlovsky and Cody Stevens live nearby and heard the search from above.

“I clearly remember listening to the helicopters closing the doors and making sure we didn’t go outside now,” Chelsea Sadlovsky said.

“We heard the helicopter telling someone to come out. There was a dog that was going to get bitten. After that announcement, we heard the helicopter for quite a while,” said Cody Stevens.

The details were also a shock for the couple.

“Coming from Seattle, I generally think of it as a little safer, more secure, more of a small-town atmosphere. To hear that something like this is happening in our backyard, so to speak, is disturbing,” Stevens said.

This came three days after another attempted kidnapping in Kent, in which three 11-year-old girls prevented a man from taking a six-year-old girl from the apartment complex they lived in. The man in that case has been charged with kidnapping and is in custody.

In the most recent case, KPD investigators were on site again on Monday and asked people living in the area to provide surveillance videos.

Police are asking people to check their security cameras for footage of the suspect before and after 10:46 p.m. on July 19. Anyone with information about the case is asked to text Kent police or call them at [email protected] or call their tip line at 253-856-5808.
