MANILA, Philippines – Education Secretary Sonny Angara said Monday he ordered the suspension of the Results-based Performance Monitoring System (RBPMS) for public school teachers for at least one month due to concerns raised by educators.

“Well, we have already issued one, or we will issue one today. “This suspension of RPMS, the reports of teachers, the evaluation of RPMS and their performance in the last school year,” he said in an ambush interview.

(This concerns the suspension of RBPMS, the teachers’ reports and the assessment of their performance in the last school year.)

“The criticism of teachers is that they are not able to produce documents etc. which have been adopted by the Brigada Eskwela,” he said.

(Teachers complain that the submission of many documents coincides with the opening of classes and the Brigada Eskwela.)

Last June, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. issued Executive Order No. 61, repealing the RBPMS and the Performance-Based Incentive System, in order to streamline, overhaul, improve and simplify the government’s performance management and incentive systems.

On July 10, the Alliance of Concerned Teachers held a protest rally to condemn the implementation of the suspended RBPMS by the Ministry of Education and to express their concerns over the submission of non-prescribed documents by teachers.
