IMPD: 1 dead in shooting in southeast Indianapolis

The incident was reported around 12:30 a.m. Monday near Shelby Street and East Troy Avenue.

INDIANAPOLIS – IMPD is investigating after one person was killed in a shooting in southeast Indianapolis early Monday.

The incident was reported around 12:30 a.m. on July 22 in the 1400 block of Nelson Avenue, northeast of Shelby Street and East Troy Avenue and just east of Interstate 65.

An IMPD captain told 13News that officers responding to an incomplete 911 call were sent by a neighbor to a home where gunshots were heard. Officers entered the home and found a victim inside with a gunshot wound.

The victim’s death was confirmed at the crime scene.


The police have not released any further information about the investigation.

The Marion County Coroner’s Office will identify the victim once family is notified.
