Driver flees Shaker Heights Police Department after high-speed crash

SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio (WOIO) – A driver fled the scene of an accident early Saturday morning after crashing into a utility pole in front of the Shaker Heights Police Department.

According to a Facebook post by the Shaker Heights City Council, the accident caused an immediate power outage in the area.

The driver of the vehicle then fled on foot and police were unable to immediately locate the suspect, the post said.

Police towed the suspect’s vehicle and found a rifle inside.

According to the press release, Shaker Heights police have identified the suspect and are seeking a warrant for his arrest.

Lee Road between Van Aken Boulevard and Fernway Road was closed for most of Saturday but has now reopened.

19 News has reached out to Shaker Heights police for more information on the suspect but has not yet received a response.
