Man arrested for fatal shooting of co-worker after brawl in Opa-locka – NBC 6 South Florida

A man was arrested after allegedly shooting his co-worker in Opa-locka on Monday following a violent altercation between the two.

Maurice Antwan Williams, 40, was charged with first-degree murder with a weapon following the shooting shortly after 6 a.m. at 3050 NW 129th Street.

According to police, Williams worked with the victim, Andre Lenard White, 38, at Arrow Asphalt & Engineering.

In an interview with authorities after the shooting, Williams claimed he was getting ready for work after returning from vacation when White punched him in the back of the head.

Williams said he fell to his knees and then White put him in a chokehold.

“Several co-workers separated (White) and (Williams), causing them to walk off in different directions,” an arrest report states.

The suspect declined to say what happened next, but several co-workers told authorities that their supervisor sent White home for the day.

As the victim walked to his vehicle, Williams allegedly ran to his car and could be seen “fumbling around in the driver’s area… then running in the direction the victim was last seen.”

At that moment, the other workers heard a gunshot, followed by several more in quick succession, according to the police report.

They then allegedly saw Williams walk back to his car and say he wanted to wait for the police.

Authorities said surveillance video confirmed this report.

According to the police report, it was not the first argument between the two.

On July 9, “the victim and the defendant got into a verbal argument that ended with the victim poking the defendant in the forehead with her finger.”

Williams then allegedly struck the victim with his hand, and the two were separated by co-workers.

After this argument, Williams “left the construction site at the request of his supervisor,” authorities said.
