Soldier injured in knife attack in Paris, suspect arrested: police

Paris:

A soldier guarding a major Paris train station on Monday was injured in a knife attack by a man who was subsequently arrested, Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said.

The soldier’s life was not in danger, Darmanin said on X, while a police source told AFP he had suffered a shoulder injury.

The attack at Gare de l’Est station in the north of Paris occurred less than two weeks before the start of the Olympic Games in the French capital.

“Our thoughts are with the soldier injured this evening at the Gare de l’Est,” Defense Minister Sebastien Lecornu wrote on X, paying tribute to the French troops protecting their citizens.

He said the soldier was part of a special military operation to protect sensitive sites in Paris, launched after the Islamist attacks on the satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo in 2015.
